Blue Star defeated Crescent Cricketers in the final of the JF Knockout Charity Cricket Tournament for the year 2009 which was played at Kanoo grounds.
Sixteen teams from Dammam, Khobar and Jubail took part in the championship.
In the 10-over final, Blue Star captain opted to field. Crescent started with its regular openers Shadab and Aftab who batted superbly throughout the tournament. But on this day, Crescent batting wilted against the athletic fielding and accurate bowling from Blue Star bowlers. Crescent lost its five frontline batsmen without much contribution.
Middle-order batsman Imran with his 15 runs and with support of the tailenders, helped Crescent manage 57 runs. For Blue Star, Shamsuddin and Riyaz shared two wickets each.
In reply, Blue Star too lost its three frontline batsmen cheaply. But it was rescued by Anwar who belted 18 runs and Muttalib (17). It helped Blue Star hit the target in the 9th over with four wickets in hand and lift the JF Cup.
The semifinals were played at the same venue in the morning. In the first semis between Blue Star and Amaco Jubail, the latter's captain and opener Asif and Shabbir batted aggressively and contributed 28 runs in just two overs. Middle order batsmen Zubair and Imran maintained the tempo to achieve a magnificent tally of 97 runs in the allotted 10 overs.
In response to a gigantic total, Blue Star's frontline batsmen failed and it lost three vital wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs.
The middle order batsman Iqbal batted superbly and scored 24 runs in a quick time and put up a 40-run partnership with Ashraf. With the loss of Iqbal at a crucial juncture it required 30 runs in last two overs. However, it made 13 runs in the 9th over. Mutalib then clinched the victory by smashing the final ball for a six.
In the second semifinals, Crescent Cricketers defeated Panorama Cricketers by 10 runs.
At the end of the final, the sponsors MGA Traders, Dammam appreciated JF organizers and praised their charitable activities. Prizes were awarded to champion and the stand
