Saudi Arabia has been preparing the technicalities for the development of the latest version of an Internet Protocol network called IPv6, as IPv4 is expected to be depleted by 2011, said Dr. Abdul Rahman A. Al-Jaffery, Governor of Communications and Information Technology Commission, the national regulatory body in the Kingdom. Dr. Jaffery was speaking at CITC's workshop on “IPv6-Development in the Kingdom” on Sunday in Riyadh. A large number of representatives from Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and members of the taskforce headed by CITC, national and international speakers participated in the workshop that discussed topics, such as, “IP Address Policy Developments, IPv4 and IPv6”, “IPv6 transition and operational reality,” “Technical developments in IPv4 and IPv6.” Dr. Jaffery said the CITC has set up a nine-member task force comprising of stakeholders for the nationwide development of IPv6 related projects in Saudi Arabia.
