A father, unable to save his two children, chose to die with them in a fire that gutted his house in Al-Jama District here on Wednesday. While the father was struggling to rescue his two children and about to succumb to the flames, a firefighting team rushed to the scene, bravely broke into the burning house, and rescued the father and his two children. The father and one of the children were rushed to the hospital in serious condition, while the other child died before reaching the hospital. The rescue team also succeeded in saving seven other people who were trapped in the burning house. Abdullah Al-Umari, the Civil Defense Spokesman, said the rescue team disconnected electricity from the burning house pointing out that initial inquiries showed that the children caused the fire. He also said that a medical report indicated that the child died due to severe failure of the respiratory system.
