Faisal, Emir of Makkah, has called upon all barbers and owners of barbershops to strictly abide by the hygienic rules established by the preventive health authorities. Earlier, Prince Khaled ordered the formation of two committees from the mayoralties in Makkah and Jeddah and Health Affairs in Jeddah to look into the hygienic rules applied to barbershops. The committee devised a law that made it mandatory for all barbershops to provide sterilization devices including ultraviolet lights and chemical disinfectants. According to the committee, these two elements protect customers from the transmission of fatal viral diseases especially the hepatitis C virus. It also called upon customers to bring their own disposable shaving instruments to the barbers besides using paper aprons to avoid transmission of viral diseases.
