Bassami, Deputy Chairman of the Car Rental Committee at Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), said that there are 180 unlicensed auto rental agencies in Jeddah out of a total of 600 rent-a-car offices. In a meeting the committee held on Wednesday evening which was presided over by the committee chairman Ali Al-Ghamdi, the committee decided to draft a detailed letter to Prince Mish'al Bin Majed, Governor of Jeddah, outlining the difficulties facing the car rental business and the extent of cooperation required from government agencies in order to overcome some of the problems. The letter was drafted in preparation for a meeting to be held later with Prince Mish'al to explain the problems facing the owners of car rental companies. Al-Bassami said the committee discussed how to merge car rental offices that do not hold legal permits to engage in the profession as they own less than 50 cars. The law requires that an agency should own at least 50 cars and that there should be unified rental prices to prevent price tampering by illegal auto rental companies.
