The Shariah Medical Commission in Riyadh has issued a judgment against two doctors at Afif General Hospital for committing a medical error which led to the death of a woman last year. The Commission made the two doctors pay the woman's relative 80 percent of the blood money with the specialist being fined SR26,666 and the consultant SR13,333. In 2007, the specialist and consultant performed a Caesarean section on the woman and removed her uterus after which she bled for 24 hours due to lack of blood platelets which the doctors failed to secure before the operation. Thus, according to the husband's testimony, the woman bled to death. The husband lodged several complaints against the two doctors at the Ministry of Health due to which a committee was formed to probe the incident. The doctors were barred from traveling unless investigations were completed.
