Robbie Keane rejoined Tottenham on Monday after only six months at Liverpool, and Arsenal added Russia playmaker Andrei Arshavin to its depleted squad. Keane is the third former Spurs player that manager Harry Redknapp has brought back to White Hart Lane. He is set to make his debut in Sunday's north London derby against Arsenal. The Ireland striker moved to Liverpool for 19 million pounds ($37.9 million), which could have risen to 20.3 million ($40.5 million) depending on his success during the four-year deal. But he struggled at the club he supported as a boy, scoring only seven goals in 28 appearances. The Reds are believed to have accepted 16 million pounds from Spurs after rejecting an offer of about a million pounds less on Sunday night, although that could rise if Keane wins trophies. Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez didn't even include Ireland's record scorer in the squad for two of the last three games, including Sunday's 2-0 victory over Chelsea. Spurs is 14th in the 20-team Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone. Concluding the deal took on greater urgency for Spurs after striker Jermain Defoe was ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a stress fracture to his right foot. Defoe returned to White Hart Lane earlier this month after a year at Redknapp's former club Portsmouth, and last week defender Pascal Chimbonda rejoined the club after two seasons at Sunderland. When Keane left in the offseason, then-Spurs manager Juande Ramos, who was fired in October, had been hoping to use the fee from Liverpool to lure Arshavin. But talks with Zenit St. Petersburg stalled over the price tag – and north London rival Arsenal experienced the same problems with the Russians in recent weeks. A breakthrough was reached, though, as the transfer window was shutting at 1700 GMT, although the Gunners will have to wait until Tuesday to discover whether the 27-year-old Russia playmaker's registration has been ratified by the Premier League. The Gunners are fifth in the Premier League, 10 points behind leader Manchester United, and manager Arsene Wenger identified Arshavin as his main target to compensate for the losses of long-term injury absentees Cesc Fabregas, Tomas Rosicky and Theo Walcott. As heavy snow swept across the country, the league said deals that could not be completed before 1700 GMT because of the weather could potentially to be finalized after the deadline if it was proved they had been agreed in principle. Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari signed winger Ricardo Quaresma on loan from Inter Milan until the end of the season to help to fill the void left by Joe Cole, who is out for the rest of the campaign with a ruptured knee ligament. Also, Newcastle exchanged Charles N'Zogbia for Wigan defender Ryan Taylor after the winger fell out with Magpies manager Joe Kinnear, and League Championship leader Wolves signed Hearts defender Christophe Berra. In other loan deals: French midfielder Olivier Dacourt joined Fulham from Inter Milan; Portsmouth signed Greece international Angelos Basinas from AEK Athens; Brazilian striker Jo joined injury-ravaged Everton from Manchester City; Portsmouth signed Fanis Gekas from Bayer Leverkusen with a view to a full transfer; and Calum Davenport joined Sunderland from West Ham. Fiorentina fifth Adrian Mutu netted twice to push Fiorentina up to fifth in Serie A with a 3-1 win at Bologna on Monday. The Romania striker, returning from three weeks out with an elbow injury, opened the scoring in style on six minutes when he volleyed in Riccardo Montolivo's long punt up field having let the ball drop over his head. His second came on 16 minutes when he sprang the offside trap and smashed the ball home. Bologna, four points above the drop zone, pulled one back through Nicola Mingazzini but Alberto Gilardino secured the win for the visitors.
