The Border Guard last year foiled smuggling of 2,864 kg of explosives, six rocket-propel grenades, 68 highly explosive hand grenades, 209 sticks of dynamite, 109 explosive capsules, 67 bomb fuses, 404 different weapons, 99,709 different types of ammunition, nine GPS (Global Positioning Systems) and 14 vehicles. Apart from this, the Border Guard patrols also arrested 3,088 smugglers and 381,460 infiltrators and foiled smuggling of 8,649 kg of hashish, 4 million narcotic pills, a large quantity of qat and 1,747 bottles of liquor. Lt. General Talal Bin Mohsen Anqawi, Director General, said the Border Guard are in the process of carrying out a comprehensive development plan including construction of residential units for its personnel. It will also establish more surveillance towers on borders equipped with the most sophisticated and latest gadgets used in the field.
