The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has started new projects worth SR1 billion to develop navigational systems. This was mentioned here by Abdullah Noor Rehaimi, GACA chief, at the fifth annual meeting on Saturday which also discussed projects in the Air Navigation Services Organization sector. Rehaimi said the administration is keen on ensuring the safety of air navigation in line with the recommendations of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The GACA, Rehaimi said, aims to provide modern navigation systems and to increase the capacity of the airspace of Saudi Arabia to cope with the steady increase in air traffic in the Middle East in general and the Arabian Gulf in particular. “We will also provide for a new civilian radar system covering all the airspace of the Kingdom,” he said.
