Many young people in the Eastern Province are wearing the black and white checkered Palestine Kaffiyah when they go to school, college or even for shopping. Saudi Gazette spoke to a few of these young people, both citizens and expatriates, to find out why they are wearing the Kaffiyah even after the war in Gaza has ended. Sulthan, a Saudi in his teens, said that he is still wearing the Kaffiyah so that people will not forget the people of Gaza and their suffering. “Even after the war, the people of Gaza are suffering. I don't want people to forget about the innocent young children who were killed by the brutal Israelis. I wear it as a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinians,” he said. Beamae Bueno, a Filipino student studying in the 10th grade at Dhahran High School in Al-Khobar, said that she is wearing the Palestine Kaffiyah as a symbol of nonviolence. “There is violence against children everywhere in the world, but that happened in Gaza is unmatched. There were about 400 children killed in Gaza and those who committed this atrocity are going unpunished. I bought this Kaffiyah from the stall we had in our school, and I wear it as a symbol of nonviolence. I believe this piece of cloth has more meaning to it than merely something to cover your head,” said a very thoughtful Bueno. Meanwhile, a group of Indian expatriate students held an exhibition called “The Crying Gaza” in Al-Muna International School. The members of the ‘Teen Circle', a group formed by Indian expatriate students, displayed charts and paper cutouts with horrific pictures of the atrocities committed by the Israelis in Gaza and especially of the suffering of the children. The exhibition was inaugurated by a Palestinian boy, Sattam Muhammed Al-Safar, who is studying in second grade in Dammam. He along with his brother, Turkey Muhammed Al-Safar, said that they were quite surprised and delighted that children from India are doing whatever they can to support the people of Gaza. The exhibition was viewed by over 500 Indian expatriate families. “We want to show support for the children of Gaza who were killed in the war and those who were wounded and are still suffering. The exhibition was basically aimed at creating awareness about the cruelty of the Israelis. We want to put a stop to this injustice,” said one of the participants in the exhibition. Children exhibited collage work, cartoons and terrifying pictures of the dead and injured children of Gaza taken from newspapers and magazines
