Former Test captain Javed Miandad quit as director general of the Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday citing what he described as his “limited role” in the PCB. “I have tendered my resignation to the chairman PCB because I was only confined to look after affairs of domestic cricket and was never consulted in other cricketing affairs,” Miandad said Wednesday. Miandad was appointed in November by incoming PCB chairman Ijaz Butt. His resignation came only a day after the PCB named Younis Khan as captain, replacing Shoaib Malik following Pakistan's heaviest ever defeat in one-day internationals at the hands of Sri Lanka on Saturday. Since his November appointment, Miandad had been working on an honorary basis before being offered a formal contract on Tuesday. “The contract read that I will look after domestic cricket, development of the grounds and development of the game which was not sufficient for what I really wanted to do for the promotion of cricket in Pakistan,” he said. “I thought about it (contract) last night before deciding its better to quit.” Miandad, 51, said it was him who convinced Sri Lanka Cricket – then led by Arjuna Ranatunga – to tour Pakistan when no other country was willing to tour due to security concerns. “I even negotiated with Ranatunga and convinced him he should send Sri Lankan team for one-day internationals and test matches to Pakistan,” Miandad told reporters. He also dismissed suggestions he quit in protest at the pay being offered. “Salary was not the issue because had I gone after the money I would have become the coach of national team when the PCB offered me the post in last October.” Miandad said he was not included in the decision-making process when Butt removed Malik as captain and appointed Khan as the new skipper – a decision he opposed.
