AN Indian expatriate in Dammam, Shanmugha Raj, 40, hailing from the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, met with an accident two months ago, while he was returning from work, when the bicycle he was riding was hit by a car. Raj was in the intensive care unit of the Dammam Medical Complex after sustaining serious head injuries and was in a state of coma for about three weeks. After he regained consciousness, he could barely remember anything, and is still not able to recognize his friends and relatives. Raj, who has been working in the same hospital (Dammam Medical Complex) for the past 15 years as a cleaner for the meager monthly income of SR500, is under the care of his colleagues. According to the doctors, Raj needs continued medical care to get back to normal life. His colleagues and friends have formed a committee to help Raj get back to India and continue his medical treatment. Hidr Mohammed, the caretaker of the Shanmugha Raj helping committee, said they are gathering funds to help Raj continue his treatment. “Raj is the sole breadwinner of his family in India and since he is in a critical state, we, his friends and co-workers, hope to take care of his medical expenses back in India and his family expenses,” Mohammed said.
