Hundreds of shoppers were evacuated from a giant shopping mall in downtown Jeddah on Thursday night after a power outage. Chaos and fear ruled the mall as people rushed toward the exit gates. Security guards had a tough time controlling the anxious people who found it difficult to breathe. A woman and a boy developed respiratory problems and were taken to a nearby hospital. Women in the mall were especially concerned as they feared for their security as well. Civil Defense teams rushed in and organized an orderly evacuation from the mall. Capt. Abdullah Al-Amri, spokesman of the Civil Defense, said two teams were involved in the evacuation process.
