The winners of the 2009 King Faisal Awards will be announced in Riyadh on Monday. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah and Chairman of the Board of King Faisal International Prize (KFIP), will announce the winners of the prize's five categories at a press conference after an honorary dinner at Al-Khozami Center in Riyadh. Dr. Abdullah Bin Saleh Al-Othaimeen, KFIP secretary general, said that in a significant departure from the earlier practice, the winner in the Service of Islam category will be announced simultaneously with the other categories. Dr. Al-Othaimeen said the board decided the subjects of the 2009 prize at the beginning of last year. The subjects are in five categories: Service to Islam, Islamic Studies, Arabic Language, Literature, Medicine and Sciences. Al-Othaimeen said the committees of all the five branches convene on Saturday for three days at the King Faisal Charitable Institution to review the nominations and choose the winners. They will also determine the subjects for the 2010 awards.
