International debutants Trent Boult and Brendon Diamanti were named on Thursday in New Zealand's 14-man squad for the five-match Chappell-Hadlee One-Day International series in Australia next month. Teenage quick bowler Boult and all-rounder Diamanti are joined in the squad by batsman Peter Fulton, who returns to the national team after performing strongly in domestic first class cricket. Missing are fast bowler Mark Gillespie and batsman Daniel Flynn, who struggled in the recent 2-1 one-day series victory against the West Indies. The 19-year-old Boult was promoted after standing out in the domestic one-day competition as well as the New Zealand under-19 team last year and New Zealand A. “It's great to be able to bring a quick left-armer into the squad,” selection panel head Glenn Turner said. “We believe he's ready to step up to the top level.” Diamanti comes into the squad as an all-rounder, replacing the injury-prone Jacob Oram, who has not yet recovered from an Achilles tendon injury. Batsman Scott Styris and all-rounder James Franklin were also not considered due to injury, although Turner said changes could be made during the series. New Zealand plays five One-Day Internationals against Australia starting on Feb. 1, as well as one Twenty/20 international on Feb. 15. Squad: Daniel Vettori (captain), Brendon McCullum, Jesse Ryder, Martin Guptill, Ross Tayor, Peter Fulton, Neil Broom, Grant Elliott, Brendon Diamanti, Tim Southee, Kyle Mills, Jeetan Patel, Iain O'Brien, Trent Boult. Australia warns Zimbabwe The Australian government on Thursday warned Zimbabwe cricket boss Peter Chingoka that he must have good grounds to enter the country to attend an International Cricket Council conference. Chingoka is one of 254 Zimbabweans not permitted entry into Australia because of their links with Robert Mugabe's regime in the strife-torn African nation. But Chingoka's position as chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) means he is required to attend the two-day conference of directors that begins Jan. 31. The ICC on Thursday could not confirm whether Chingoka had applied for a visa to visit Australia, and attempts by the domestic news agency, Australian Associated Press (AAP), to contact ZC's headquarters were unsuccessful.
