Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Babar Awan says Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif violated Charter of Democracy (CoD) by issuing a statement against the government that it is pursuing the policy of dictatorship. He told the reporters that on the one hand the PML-N chief met with the leadership of the Pakistan People's Party to convince them to repeal 17th amendment, while on the other he alleged that the government was pursuing the policies of a dictator. Awan said the government will give rights to the people of Pakistan and establish transparent electoral system and independent judiciary. The minister said the people buried dictatorship on Feb. 18, 2008, adding, no other dictator would come again to drag Pakistan into martial law. He said through effective foreign policy the government has ebbed away the threats of collision between the two nuclear powers of the region. Awan stated that a political statement by a deposed judge (Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry) is violation of the code of conduct, and, if anyone wants to do politics, he should come in the field.
