Sophia, an Ethiopian woman living in Jeddah, failed to learn a lesson from her husband's bitter experience when he was caught red-handed by the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice distilling liquor, and was subsequently punished and deported to his country. This time, members of the Commission arrested Sophia and a fellow countrywoman while they were delivering smuggled whisky to some customers in Al-Bawadi District in Jeddah. Sophia and her accomplice have been handed over to the police at Al-Safa District in Jeddah. In a similar incident, the Commission staff raided a brewery in a rest house being run by an Ethiopian man and woman. On searching the house, the staff found 38 containers full of liquor. Preliminary investigations showed that the woman had a criminal record for selling liquor and she was deported. Police in Samir District are still investigating the case.
