The plight of two young men who had stolen two sheep a year ago and were sentenced earlier this week by a Bisha court to three years in prison and 2,000 lashes each, was brought to the notice of the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR). The brother of one of the men, Abdullah Al-Shehri, who has already served a year in jail while awaiting the verdict, brought the case to the NSHR, said the society's chairman Mifleh Al-Qahtani on Wednesday A source said the NSHR would seek a much lighter punishment taking into consideration their age, if not scrapping of the verdict altogether. A legal consultant has volunteered to appeal the verdict. “There are many gaps in the prosecution's case,” said Dhafer Al-Shehri, the legal consultant. “I am not blaming the judge or his system. I just want to see justice done,” he said.
