Two kids, aged 3 and 5, died on Saturday in Al-Turkia District in Qatif due to a fire started by their room heater. Civil Defense authorities confirmed that the fire started when the children switched on the room heater because of the cold weather, which has been prevalent in the Eastern Province for the past three weeks. Neighbors initially tried to rescue the children after noticing smoke coming out of their house. Unable to put out the fire, they informed Civil Defense. By the time the Civil Defense team broke into the house, the children were already dead due to smoke inhalation. However, their 29-year-old mother was rescued and hospitalized. Last year an Egyptian girl died and three other family members received burn injuries in Adama District in Dammam as a kerosene heater caught fire while they were sleeping.
