Visitors to the historic city of Al Okhdood Canyon and Najran Museum for Relics and Heritage numbered more than 51,000 in 2008 with foreigners making up 9,000 or 20 percent of them. The director of the Tourism Authority in Najran, Saleh Aal Mreeh, said the statistic included official delegations, tourist groups, school and university students and families and individuals. “The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities' efforts led to the successful completion of the first stage of the development of the museum and the historic city,” he said. The Museum of Al Okhdood Historic City contains relics, photos and paintings of monuments found in the historic city, with some of them more than 2,000 years old. They are exhibited in two halls: the old one and the Prince Mesha'l Bin Saud Hall, he said, adding that trees covering the city's site were removed and repairs and development work were carried out over the surrounding areas and the old market.
