The National Human Rights Society (NHRS) has supported 44 complaints of citizens whose Saudi citizenships have been revoked. The 44 complaints were referred to the Ministry of Interior along with other 331 citizenship-related complaints the NHRS received. The complaint log listed 191 cases of people who were denied the Saudi nationality by the Civil Status Department at the Ministry of Interior and 96 cases of people seeking identification documents. The complaints involved the Department offices in Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Jizan and the Eastern Province. Dr. Mifleh Al-Qahtani, chairman of NHRS, said the Department of the Civil Status moved to revoke Saudi citizenship of 44 people for various reasons. The reasons were not particularly identified, however. These are still pending cases, he said. Qahtani expressed his satisfaction with the positive response the NHRS received from the government offices involved in these cases. He, however, noted that some government offices would take some time to process the complaint before getting back to the NHRS. But in some cases, the government offices respond with no clear resolutions of the cases, which would require re-submitting of the same case with more solid arguments and support, he said.
