At least 3,550 bags of melamine-tainted Chinese milk have been withdrawn from the Saudi market and destroyed, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced. The Ministry urged importers to observe the ban by Saudi Arabian Standards Organization on milk contaminated with melamine, or face severe penalties. Consumers are urged to report market fraud to the toll-free number 800-124-1616 or fax their finding to 01-409-3047. In Dec. 2008, Saudi Arabia announced that harmful concentrations of melamine had been found in milk powder Nesvita Pro Bones made by a Nestle plant in China. The government moved immediately to withdraw the milk brand from the market. A customer service operator at the toll-free number said they used to receive many reports on melamine-tainted Nesvista in the market, but the complaints have been decreasing since the authorities started pulling the product off the shelves.
