SHENZHEN, China — Top-seeded Tomas Berdych won his 11th ATP Tour title by defeating Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 7-6 (7) Monday in the Shenzhen Open final. Heavy rain Sunday had postponed the final for a day and after another rain interruption Monday, Berdych finally clinched the title. Garcia-Lopez had a chance to take the final into third set when he led 6-5 in the tiebreaker. But Berdych saved the set point and then converted his second match point with a forehand return for his first title of the season. Berdych lost in three finals this season — in Doha, Rotterdam and Monte Carlo — and now heads to China Open where he's seeded second. Bouchard retires A teary-eyed Eugenie Bouchard retired from her opening match against Andrea Petkovic at the China Open due to dizziness Monday, her first match since falling at the US Open last month and suffering a concussion. Bouchard slipped in the locker room after her third-round win against Dominika Cibulkova at the US Open, falling backward and landing hard on the back of her head. She was forced to withdraw from the tournament, as well as subsequent tournaments in Tokyo and Wuhan. The Canadian was trailing 6-2, 1-1 against Petkovic Monday when she decided to call it quits. Agnieszka Radwanska survived a three-set encounter with Mona Barthel, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. In women's second-round matches Monday, US Open runner-up Roberta Vinci of Italy defeated Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium 6-2, 6-2, Madison Keys of the US rallied to beat Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, and seventh-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro ousted Puerto Rico's Monica Puig 7-6 (1), 6-2. In a first-round match, Switzerland's Belinda Bencic outlasted Madison Brengle of the US 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3. In the men's draw, eighth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France was upset by Austria's Andreas Haider-Maurer 7-6 (4), 6-2. In other results, men's fifth seed Milos Raonic was upset 6-4, 6-4 by Viktor Troicki. In other first-round matches, Belgium's David Goffin, the seventh seed, defeated Italy's Andreas Seppi 6-2, 6-3, Fabio Fognini of Italy beat Slovakia's Martin Klizan 6-2, 6-1, and Chinese wild card Zhang Ze, ranked No. 219 in the world, beat 70th-ranked Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. Nishikori ousts Coric In Tokyo, defending champion Kei Nishikori, of Japan, was given a real scare by teen ace Borna Coric, of Croatia, Monday, before sealing a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 comeback win in the first round of the Rakuten Japan Open. The 38th-ranked Coric, the youngest player in the top 50 of the ATP world rankings, showed a maturity beyond his years to take the first set, and looked likely to upset the home-crowd favorite. However, the 18-year-old won only one of the next nine games as the sixth-seeded Nishikori eventually advanced to the second round in in two hours and eight minutes. Nishikori next faces the big-serving Sam Querrey, of the US, who defeated the 35th-ranked Alexandr Dolgopolov, of Ukraine, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. The 127th-ranked Tatsuma Ito won the battle of the Japanese wild cards against the 148th-ranked Yoshihito Nishioka, 3-6, 6-0, 7-5. — Agencies
