The Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAA) has started updating its fleet as part of its plan to cope with the latest technology in aviation industry. The first modernized Boeing 777 was unveiled recently and the other 21 planes of the same model will be renewed soon. Eng. Khaled Al-Molhem, director general of SAA inspected the first modified plane Saturday at the King Abdul Aziz International Airport. The modification included passenger seats, entertainment and the introduction of a new system that allows passengers to use their cell phones on board. “Passengers can soon use their cellular phones and laptops along their journey after we get all necessary licenses,” Al-Molhem said. He added it took the Saudi technicians two months to install the new AeroMobile system on the plane. Assistant Director for Technical Services Ali Abdullah Mila'at said all seats on the modified Boeing have been replaced with new ones of high standards for passenger's comfort. “The new flexible seats are covered with soft leather to ensure the maximum comfort especially when a passenger is sleeping,” he said, adding that the whole entertainment system has been replaced. “The new entertainment system is more modernized and it allows passengers to choose a variety of audio and video programs. All seats have been equipped with electrical outlets and memory card slots to give the passengers the choice to use their personal computer devices,” he said.
