It is a great privilege to get an opportunity to serve the Guests of God, says Mohd. Shahid Alam, India's Haj consul-designate. “I see this is a very big responsibility. The success of any system or officer depends on whether new initiatives are taken to further improve the system or not, and I have the earnest desire to improve the system with the cooperation of the entire mission staff and members of the community,” he said while attending a press conference in Makkah. Alam will take charge in November as the successor of Mohammed Noor Rahman Sheikh who is leaving the Kingdom next month to join the Permanent Mission of India at the United Nations in New York as first secretary. Alam, who is now serving as second secretary at the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, arrived at Makkah Haj Mission for two weeks to have first-hand information about the Haj operation. Hailing from Dhanbad in the northern Indian state of Jharkhand, Alam worked as language trainee at the Indian Embassy in Cairo during 2012-14. He underwent Indian Foreign Service training from New Delhi in 2010. His wife's name is Dr. Shakeela Khatun.
