SAN MARINO, Italy — Jorge Lorenzo, who trails Yamaha teammate Valentino Rossi by a dozen points in the title race, topped the times with a record lap in practice Friday for Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix. The Spanish former world champion covered the 4.2-kilometer Misano circuit in a fastest ever 1min 32.871, to shade Honda's reigning titleholder Marc Marquez. Dani Pedrosa on another Honda took third with Rossi in fifth at 0.598. 2016 Indianapolis MotoGP race dropped Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Dorna announced Friday they had agreed to drop the Indianapolis Grand Prix from next season's MotoGP schedule. Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna, MotoGP's governing body, said the race could return to Indy in the future. While attendance declined during the race's eight-year run, the bigger problem came when Laguna Seca was taken off the 2014 schedule. That made Indy the only summer race held in North America. Officials said that created logistical and financial challenges for teams. Riders also complained about Indy's road track — something the speedway tried to fix with a repaved and reconfigured course before the 2014 race. The changes received mostly good reviews. IMS President Doug Boles said he will consider adding other races and concerts to the 2016 schedule. — Agencies
