It is because of the pathetic concept of bridges the government has come up with throughout the city. Once upon a time, Jeddah had the most beautiful road network. I used to brag about it to my Western friends. Now, I see corruption creeping in everywhere. Muddassir Moinuddin Having spent the summer in Jeddah, I can definitely relate to the traffic congestion in the city. A lot of work is needed to be done in the streets and roads to improve the flow of traffic. The basic structure is there but the enforcement of rules is lacking. All this congestion is causing unnecessary pollution and inconvenience. Siraj Al-Alam Another problem is the traffic police. How many times have I seen police on cellphones while driving. Police sometimes drive worse than other road users. They spend too much time on their cellphones and do not look at what is happening right in front of them. The police need to sharpen up much more and do some actual work and leave the cellphones at home. Riaan Maree It's been 35 years since I left Jeddah, but some things never seem to change, especially the traffic jams. Arend Schröder Start proper public transport within the city. There is a need for trams and public buses that men, women and children can ride safely. Every woman gets a taxi, men travel separately, and people treat cars here as if they were things of little or no value. Such a huge country, but no space to park anywhere. Zainub Khan What we need is city planning and public transportation, like underground and above-ground metros and buses that are in good condition. People will never give up their cars when there is no public transportation. Jumanah Salama
