Published in The Saudi Gazette on 29 - 08 - 2015

CINCINNATI — Zack Greinke allowed four hits over seven innings to lift the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 1-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Thursday.
Greinke (14-3) struck out nine and walked two for Los Angeles before Jim Johnson earned his 10th save with a perfect ninth inning.
Yasmani Grandal drove in the only run in the second inning when Justin Turner scored from third after the catcher had hit into a double play with the bases-loaded.
Giants 9, Cubs 1
Madison Bumgarner struck out 12 batters in just six innings, pitching the San Francisco Giants to a 9-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
Right fielder Marlon Byrd smacked a three-run home run in the third inning while second baseman Kelby Tomlinson recorded his first major-league homer, an eighth-inning grand slam, for the Giants.
Pirates 2, Marlins 1
Right-hander Gerrit Cole won his 15th game of the season to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates past the Miami Marlins. Cole (15-7) allowed five hits, no walks and one run in 7-1/3 innings though it was his first win since July 26.
He tied the St. Louis Cardinals' Michael Wacha in second for most wins in the National League. Madison Bumgarner of the San Francisco Giants and Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs lead the league with 16 wins.
Nationals 4, Padres 2
Rookie Joe Ross allowed just one unearned run in six innings while Jayson Werth and Ryan Zimmerman hit late solo homers as the Washington Nationals beat the San Diego Padres.
Werth hit a solo homer in the sixth to give the Nationals a 3-1 lead before Zimmerman made it 4-1 with a solo homer to lead off the seventh against reliever Kevin Quackenbush.
Mets 9, Phillies 5 (13 innings)
First baseman Daniel Murphy snapped a tie with a two-run double in a four-run 13th inning to lift the New York Mets to a 9-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Cardinals 5, Diamondbacks 3
Left fielder Brandon Moss hit his first homer with St. Louis as the Cardinals completed a 5-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
American League Angels 2, Tigers 0
Matt Shoemaker returned from the minors and gave up just one hit in 7-1/3 innings as the Los Angeles Angels beat the Detroit Tigers.
Shoemaker (6-9) was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday after giving up 13 runs in 7-1/3 innings in his previous two starts with the Angels.
Detroit's Anthony Gose, who singled in the third and walked in the sixth was the only Tiger to reach base against Shoemaker.
Albert Pujols drove in a run with a sixth-inning single while Shane Victorino added a ninth-inning sacrifice fly to drive in Pujols from third base.
Rangers 4, Blue Jays 1
Yovani Gallardo collected his 100th career victory while the Texas Rangers used an error by Toronto right fielder Jose Bautista to score three runs in the seventh inning in a 4-1 victory over the Blue Jays.
The Rangers (65-61) drew level with the Minnesota Twins for the second wild-card spot in the American League behind the New York Yankees, who are 1-1/2 games behind the Blue Jays (71-56) in the AL East.
Royals 5, Orioles 3
Yordano Ventura struck out 11 while Paulo Orlando homered as the Kansas City Royals beat the Baltimore Orioles. Ventura (9-7) allowed two singles and four walks while striking out 11 in six scoreless innings.
Rays 5, Twins 4
Left fielder Joey Butler hit a game-tying single and scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball as the Tampa Bay Rays earned a 5-4 win over the Minnesota Twins.
Butler, who was called up earlier in the day from Triple-A Durham, knocked in second baseman Logan Forsythe to tie the game 4-4 in the sixth inning.
He advanced to second due to fielder indifference and moved to third on a grounder from pinch hitter John Jaso before he came home when a pitch from Neal Cotts eluded Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki.
White Sox 4, Mariners 2
Carlos Rodon allowed just two runs in six-plus innings to help the White Sox beat the Seattle Mariners. Rodon (6-5) earned the win by striking out five, walking three and allowing three hits before yielding to the bullpen, who combined to throw three scoreless innings which were capped by closer David Robertson, who recorded his 27th save. — Reuters
