RIYADH – The Saudi General Committee for Municipal Elections has warned prospective candidates against following unlawful practices to win over the voters. “All the candidates must follow strictly the rules and regulations laid out for the elections,” said Hamad Al-Omar, chairman of the media wing for the elections. He urged the voters to elect those who are competent to serve the people. “The voters should cast their ballots after closely evaluating the election programs of candidates and their competence to fulfill the promises,” he said. The committee has arranged 1,263 polling centers spread over 284 municipalities and branch municipalities across the Kingdom for the third municipal elections scheduled for Dec. 12. Candidates in Makkah and Madinah have started registering for elections on Sunday while it will begin in other cities across the Kingdom on Aug. 30. Meanwhile, there is a low turnout for the registration of voters in various parts of the Kingdom. Only 109 voters turned out on Monday to register their names at the polling centers in Riyadh on the second day of registration. They included 31 women voters. A total of 147 voters have registered on the first day of registration on Sunday.
