With regard to the article “Jawazat to issue residence IDs instead of permits” (Aug. 19), I thought there would be something new in this new ID card. Something like identifying long-term expatriates and allowing them to invest. But now I don't think there was any point in issuing a new card. It is a total waste. Htasham, Online response There is nothing new. The only change is that jawazat has saved time and money since it does not have to print millions of iqama cards every year. Instead, they will do it once in five years. Arshad, Online response If we are going to receive an ID card which is valid for five years, it should have the following features. There should be an option for up to five years multiple exit/re-entry for dependents. There should also be an option to renew the ID for five years. These would be great benefits and provide peace of mind to expatriates. Abdul Aziz, Online response
