The Boston Bruins notched their seventh successive NHL win with a 4-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Blake Wheeler scored twice in the second period, and Michael Ryder got the go-ahead goal with 6:14 left as Boston moved nine points clear atop the Eastern Conference and within two points of San Jose for the NHL's best record. Devils 4, Rangers 2: In New York, New Jersey snapped a team-record scoreless drought in beating New York. The Devils had gone seven periods without a goal entering this game but required less than three minutes to go ahead. Travis Zajac had a goal and two assists for the Devils. Blues 3, Sharks 2, SO: In St. Louis, Brad Winchester tied the game with a second period goal, and scored the decider in the shootout as struggling St. Louis upset high-flying San Jose. St. Louis had lost seven of its previous eight and seven in a row against the Sharks. Avalanche 4, Red Wings 3, SO: In Denver, Peter Budaj stopped all three shots in the shootout to give Colorado a win over Detroit. Wojtek Wolski scored the lone goal in the tiebreaker, making it six conversions from seven attempts for him this season. Budaj finished with 41 saves. Colorado led 3-0 after the opening period but the Red Wings squared it in the second. Canadiens 3, Penguins 2: In Pittsburgh, Andrei Kostitsyn had his first career hat trick to lead Montreal over Pittsburgh. Carey Price made 32 saves for the Canadiens. After missing two games because of a minor leg injury, Kostitsyn scored twice in the first period and had the winner in the third. Blue Jackets 3, Flyers 0: In Columbus, Ohio, rookie Steve Mason made 20 saves for his third shutout in Columbus' first victory over Philadelphia in franchise history.
