JEDDAH — Courts in various regions of the Kingdom received 211 cases of adl (male guardians preventing women under their care from getting married) so far this year, Al-Watan daily reported on Thursday, quoting a judicial source. The source said the main reasons behind the adl cases were guardians opposing marriages with expatriates, tribal incompatibility and a desire by the guardians to keep the women's salaries. A 22-year-old Saudi man who killed his older sister who had won a court ruling to marry an expatriate has been charged with first-degree murder. His trial will start next month.
