The Muslim World League's (MWL) Islamic Fiqh Academy is organizing a four-day conference from Jan. 17 under the patronage of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. The conference titled “The Fatwa and its rules” will be held at MWL's headquarters in Makkah. Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdul Muhsin Al-Turki, MWL secretary general, said the conference, to be attended by a number of scholars, Fiqh professors and members from the Fiqh Academy, will discuss eight main points: Ijtihad (collective interpretation of Qur'an and Sunnah) and its importance in this era, Fatwa and its importance, unauthorized and unauthenticated Fatwas and the dangers they pose, changing of Fatwa, Fatwa and its role in asserting Shariah principles, fabrication and organizing Fatwa: the rules and mechanisms, and Fatwa issued on satellite channels. Al-Turki said the conference will issue a charter that will set standards and rules for issuing Fatwa.
