ABHA — Cable cars that move at great heights over Asir region's summer resorts are attracting high numbers of visitors and holidaymakers, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Chairman of the National Tourism Company Saleh Qadah said the cable cars are able to carry over 1,000 people an hour between the heights of Al-Sarat Mountains and the Tihama plains. The cable cars run through four stations, and maintenance is carried out in cooperation with the manufacturing companies in Austria and Switzerland. Qadah said Siyahiyah has laid down a strategy for the summer program covering tourist facilities and resorts so that holidaymakers can enjoy their visit to the region. He also said Siyahiyah is in talks with a number of international companies looking to invest in cafes and food outlets. Resorts across the region have over 700 residential units available for holidaymakers, including in Abha, Al-Habalah, Al-Soudah, Al-Far'a, Al-Mataar, the Red Sea Coast, Al-Huraidha and Abha International Exhibition Center. Many of the resorts are located on the banks of Abha Dam and in the Al-Sarat Mountains. Qadah added that the Directorate General of Water has prepared the area around the dam, removing the grass and rocks and cleaning the surrounding areas completely. Al-Habalah resort, which overlooks an old village, has also been renovated. A theater has been constructed from stone and has a capacity of 1,000. The theater will be used for staging traditional shows, seminars and cultural programs.
