About 19 civil societies from different parts of the Kingdom will work together in writing a comprehensive periodic report on human rights being prepared by the Human Rights Commission (HRC) which will be submitted to the UN Human Rights Council in February. The societies participated in the preparatory meeting held at the commission's headquarters in Riyadh which was chaired by Dr. Zaid Bin Abdul Mohsin Al-Hussein, Deputy President of the HRC. In the three-hour meeting, the participants discussed ways of compiling the report and expressed their readiness to participate in writing it so as to make the report a success. Dr. Al-Hussein said the commission is keen on keeping in touch with all the societies and individuals working in the field in the Kingdom. As the report represents the entire Kingdom, the participation of all these societies is vital. The UN Human Rights Council requests that member states provide an annual report called the comprehensive periodic review report. In this report, member states explain their constitutions, laws and institutions which consolidate the protection of human rights and honor international and regional agreements and commitments. The reports also highlight the condition of the rights of children, women, foreign workers, foreign women and labor unions besides the challenges and difficulties facing these countries in the area of human rights.
