For the first time in the region, Saudi Telecom Company (STC) has launched a home fiber- optic service (FTTH) providing the fastest Internet speed reaching 100MB per second for its clients in the Kingdom. The client's home would be linked to a modern fiber-optic network with high capacities and would be provided with a special modem for the service. The project would be carried out in stages - beginning first with some districts in the major cities. Engineer Saad Bin Dhafer Al-Qahtani, vice president of STC for Residential Services Sector, said STC's success in launching the residential fiber-optic service is considered to be a qualitative change and a huge leap in Internet services due to its importance. The service provides real and safe Internet at a very high speed for surfing and transmitting information at speeds reaching 100 MB/second. This will enable STC clients to enjoy Internet services in different fields including visual services, developed conversation services (VOIP), satellite TV transmission services that will enable viewers to watch TV programs with high quality and clarity, besides downloading videos (VOD) and electronic games and recreation services. Fiber-optic service would open the door wider to clients for Internet uses.
