Tasneef posts impressive growth in first half of '15
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 27 - 07 - 2015

EMIRATES Classification Society “Tasneef” completed the first half of its third year with significant achievements in classification services that are tailored to the needs of the Arab world.

Commenting on Tasneef's achievements, Eng. Rashed Al Hebsi, CEO of Tasneef, said “we are blessed to have achieved a wide acceptance in the Arab maritime community as the first Arab classification society, and we are considered the accredited society for issuing compliance certificates in accordance with GCC standards. We also signed an agreement with Jordan, which currently accredits our classification services in all areas pertaining to inspection, consulting and training and we are about to sign a direct agreement with Egypt. Our visit to the Arab League represents a step towards being fully accredited by all Arab countries.”

Al Hebsi added “in Tasneef we recognize that sustainability in the development of the maritime sector lies in building national caliber. Thus, we launched Tasneef Maritime Academy to be a reference point in the region for all those who are interested in a career in inspection and maritime classification. The Academy also aims to develop the technical caliber by working with several companies operating in the region, reducing training costs and the need to hire additional foreign consultants.”

Landmark achievements

Capt. Waleed Al Nahdi, Commercial and Marketing Director at Tasneef, said “our third year is marked by our announcement of taking over 50% of the inspection and classification services in the region. This announcement, made during our annual advisory board meeting is based on Tasneef's domain knowledge and understanding of the Arab region and its conditions compared to other foreign societies. Also, Sahara notation is considered a winning deal that saves more than 15% of ship classification and related costs compared to standards adopted by foreign classification societies operating in different environmental conditions.”

Eng. Omar Abu Omar, Chief Operating Officer at Tasneef , referred to the great support that Tasneef receives from the maritime sector in the region saying, “Tasneef is supported by the largest shipping, oil and gas companies in the UAE due to the high credibility of our services in accordance with international standards. We are proud that the list of Tasneef's clients include major companies such as Esnaad, Irshad and Tawazun Dynamics in addition to ADNOC and ADNATCO-NGSCO.”

Tasneef had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Drydocks World and Dubai Maritime City (DMC) to provide classification services to the world's first LNG-powered harbor tug carrying the trade mark “Elemarateyah”. Abu Omar added, “This landmark undertaking, in which the tug will have a dual engine capable of operating with both traditional marine diesel oil (MDO) as well as liquefied natural gas (LNG), represents a major breakthrough for the future of green technology. Tasneef is taking serious steps to expand its services regionally and internationally. For example, new ships are being established in Romania under our supervision. All these landmarks drive Tasneef towards being a major player in the maritime classification sector.”

Concrete steps in international maritime classification
Eng. Suod Al Hammadi, Defense Project Manager at Tasneef expressed his optimism regarding the expansion of Tasneef in the Italian market through partnerships signed with several Italian companies saying, “These partnerships represent a significant opportunity to widen the scope of Tasneef's services and exchange expertise between the two countries. We have future aspirations that will consolidate the vision of the UAE in the maritime classification sector.” — SG
