JEDDAH — The Eid Festival kicked in with its promise of fun and entertainment for families here with colorful cultural performances, traditional dances, circus, other awesome shows that entertained visitors at Balad, Corniche, malls and other places in Jeddah on the first day of Eid.
Residents comprised of Saudis, expats and visitors from other parts of the country alike are enjoying the packed schedule of events throughout the Eid holiday. Organized by Jeddah governorate, Jeddah Municipality and Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the activities began on the first day of Eid and will continue until Aug. 18.
Also, there are several other activities organized by private sectors and malls throughout the Eid holidays.
"With successful events and activities, Jeddah is positioned as a tourism destination for families locally and regionally," said Mohammed Al Said, director of events at JCCI and assistant director of Jeddah Summer Festival 36 “Jeddah Ghair”.
"We have been making efforts to make the Jeddah Festival more exciting and interesting by bringing performances and shows by internationally acclaimed artists and professionals," he added.
Al Said said: “Jeddah Ghair festival reaffirms the capability of Jeddah Chamber to successfully organize and host mega festivals, retail and entertainment events, to support the growth of Jeddah's tourism industry.” Meanwhile, Abdullah Bin Dahwi, head of the executive committee of Jeddah historical festival based on a directive from Jeddah Governor Prince Mishaal Bin Majed that the celebrations will be held under the theme “Eidena Kida 2” — Our Eid Was Like This — is a continuation of the successful festival “Ramadanana Kida 2”.
“The plan provides families and visitors the opportunity to experience Eid in Balad as our old folks used to celebrate Eid. It will be yet another occasion to showcase Hijazi traditions,” he said.
The Jeddah Municipality is also organizing an entertainment festival for four days during Eid, the Eid festival will be held under the slogan “Your Eid is Our Eid too” a full calendar of events to mark Eid Al-Fitr holidays.
Jeddah Corniche is set to burst into color, light and sound with the skies being filled with more than 10,000 fireworks launched daily from three different locations.
Jeddah Mayor Dr. Hani Abu Rass noted that Jeddah Municipality has taken full responsibility for events and activities catered toward all sections of society, especially families and children of all age groups, in all parts of the province.
Held between 5 p.m. and midnight from the first day of Eid until the 5th of Shawwal, the activities cover culture, heritage, entertainment, modified cars and music.
He also stated that the municipality has conducted extensive maintenance work to prepare the Jeddah Corniche and other Eid hotspots for the festivities.
The Eid festivals are initiatives of joined cooperation of government and private sectors as a plan that is supported by the Saudi Commission for Tourism & Antiquities.
