For many Muslims, Ramadan is a special month. Many people take a step back leaving their daily duties and concentrate more on community work, charity, fasting, and praying. Some Muslims participate in charity work with organizations; whereas, others prefer to do charity work individually. Some of the initiatives that organizations or even mosques take part in include feeding people during Iftar and sometimes they do a one day event such as, one dedicated to orphans, that takes place every year in Ramadan. Nowadays, even private individual businesses give away profits that they receive in Ramadan to poor people as a way of charity and to benefit the community. Many people are seen handing out water, milk, bread, and dates before Iftar to homeless or poor people and drivers who are running late. Other initiatives help give away money and clothes to those in need. Ghazal Kaki, a Saudi woman told Saudi Gazette: “ Charity is a part of worship not only in Ramadan but throughout the whole year. However, in this Holy Month it increases. I started after seeing my parents cook Iftar and distribute it themselves.” A young Saudi volunteer, who wished to stay anonymous, told Saudi Gazette: “Everyday in Ramadan, I distribute meals with water and dates so I can feel that I did something good during this month and something that would go for my dead parents. It is a gift for them. Also you feel you are doing something that will benefit the community.”
