The 2nd Ramadan Festival “Ramadanana Kida” (Our Ramadan Was Like This) was launched in old downtown Jeddah “Albalad” during the holy month and will continue until the fourth day of Eid Al-Fitr.
In this festival visitors will find many commercial, social, cultural, religious, sporting, environmental, and heritage activities of the Hijazi heritage in the Albalad area.
In this video you will not only see the way the people used to sell products in the old days; but also you will watch several games and jobs that used to be visible in Albalad but nowadays has disappeared such as, “Al-Mesaharati” — a man who would roam the streets at Sahur time to wake people up — is depicted in Albalad. He would chant certain rhymes to ensure people rose for their pre-dawn meals. The Al-Mesaharati is a feature of the past and we seldom find people doing this type of work nowadays, especially in the modern districts of urban Saudi cities.
One of the vital places that this video showcases, the Al-Shafei Mosque, is a historic mosque located in Al-Mathloum neighborhood, which is one of Jeddah's oldest neighborhoods.
