BOSTON — Carlos Correa showed why he was the American League rookie of the month in June as he helped the Houston Astros to a wild win over the Boston Red Sox 12-8 Friday. The 20-year-old hit a solo homer in the eighth inning and then stroked an RBI single in the 10th to help the Astros to their fifth straight win. The 48-34 Astros, leaders of the American League West, failed to hold leads of 5-2, 7-5 and 8-7 but came through with four runs in the 10th against right-hander Noe Ramirez, who was making his major league debut. Yankees 7, Rays 5 (12 innings): First baseman Mark Teixeira hit the game-tying three-run home run in the eighth inning and catcher Brian McCann hit the game-winning three-run home run with one out in the 12th, lifting the New York Yankees to a rousing win over the Tampa Bay Rays. McCann's seventh career walkoff hit and fourth career walkoff home run lifted the Yankees to the top of the AL East and sent the Rays to their sixth consecutive loss. Mariners 9, A's 5: Logan Morrison, Seth Smith, Nelson Cruz and Brad Miller each hit two-run homers, powering the Seattle Mariners to victory against the Oakland Athletics. Seattle's home run outburst, two shy of its season high, helped left-hander J.A. Happ (4-5) halt his four-game losing streak and win for the first time since May 9, also against the A's. Tigers 8, Blue Jays 6: Anibal Sanchez lost a no-hit bid in the eighth inning, and the Detroit Tigers also lost perennial All-Star first baseman Miguel Cabrera, before nearly squandering an eight-run lead against the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto left fielder and ex-Tiger Ezequiel Carrera smacked a one-out single to end Sanchez's try for a second career no-hitter. Toronto proceeded to score six runs in the inning. Cabrera exited in the fourth inning with a left calf strain and was scheduled to undergo an MRI. White Sox 1, Orioles 0: A solo shot in the third inning by Jose Abreu, his 14th home run of the season, was all the Chicago White Sox needed to beat the Baltimore Orioles and extend their winning streak to three games. Other results: Angels 8, Rangers 2; Royals 3, Twins 2 (10 innings). National League Nationals 2, Giants 1: Clint Robinson hit a two-run homer and Gio Gonzalez pitched seven strong innings as the Washington Nationals beat the San Francisco Giants, who dropped their fourth straight. It was Washington's seventh straight home win, a result that spoiled the return of San Francisco starter Jake Peavy after more than two months on the disabled list with a back strain. Padres 2, Cardinals 1: Second baseman Jedd Gyorko broke a tie in the top of the ninth with an RBI single as the San Diego Padres rallied to beat St. Louis, sending the Cardinals to their first four-game losing streak of the year. The Cardinals still have best record in the majors (51-28) but have managed just six runs during their losing skid. Braves 2, Phillies 1: Julio Teheran continued his pattern of excellence at home, allowing only one unearned run in seven innings and the Atlanta Braves sent the Philadelphia Phillies to a fifth straight defeat. Teheran (6-4) improved to 5-0 at home, though he wobbled at times, allowing seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Marlins 2, Cubs 1: Justin Bour, with his fourth home run in four games, supplied the go-ahead run in the sixth inning as the Miami Marlins edged the Chicago Cubs. Other results: Brewers 12, Reds 1; Diamondbacks 3, Rockies 3; Mets 2, Dodgers 1. Inter-League Indians 5, Pirates 2: Brandon Moss opened the scoring with a two-run home run and Michael Bourn drove in the other three runs for Cleveland as the Indians beat the Pittsburgh Pirates. — Reuters
