Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — Sulaiman Al-Hamdan, president of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), opened on Tuesday the new terminal building for deportees and emergency flights at the King Abdulaziz International Airport. The terminal has the capacity to accommodate 35,000 deportees per day and 3,000 per hour, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Abdul Hameed Abal Ari, director general of the airport, said that the two terminal buildings are spread over an area of 18,000 square meters and 13,307 sq. meters. The facilities at the terminal include parking area covering 2,000 sq. meters for buses, waiting and assembling area covering over 2,096 sq. meters, separate reception lounges for men and women with a capacity for 1,500 people, 14 passport control counters, food court, 12 passport directorate counters, and baggage X-ray screening facility. There are seven departure lounges, each with a capacity for 300 people. The terminal also has three lounges furnished with necessary equipment to receive emergency cases in the event of any aviation accidents. There is also a medical quarantine facility at the terminal to receive flights coming with passengers reportedly having suspected cases of contagious diseases. Abal Ari said there is another lounge to receive flights that face with any potential security threat so as to ensure safety of passengers.
