JEDDAH — Many young Saudis are taking advantage of the 2nd Ramadan festival in the historical Balad area to sell their new products as well as promote their new businesses. Many young Saudis at the festival are seen selling local products from food, clothes and even entertainment services. At the festival visitors can see a shop that sells “chappati” with Nutella. They can also find people selling T-shirts and shirts that have new slogans. “Haweee Sports Service” is part of the event and helps young Saudis get into sport. “Haweee” provides services to people who love sports such as renting out playgrounds and organizing games and events. Some young people are selling products and handmade souvenirs. A Saudi woman in her 20s who did not want to be identified said: “All of these products are handmade. “We take them from people who are living in this area and sell them.” Visitors will find many colorful paintings of old Jeddah and made by Saudi youths. They will also find several Saudis selling traditional food, while others have opened small restaurants to promote their businesses. An example of such ventures is “Albeet Alhijazi, a small restaurant that serves traditional food such as “Manto” and “Fermoza” that is cooked at home and can be ordered throughout the year. This restaurant can be found now at Balad with the owner Ola Rajab there most of the time taking care of clients. Saudis believe that the “Ramadanana Kida” festival is a good initiative for promoting their businesses and showcasing them to visitors. There is also a wall where visitors can sign their names as well as a play area for children.
