Badea Abu Al-Naja Saudi Gazette MAKKAH — The Al-Bir Charity Organization will implement a number of welfare programs during Ramadan including the distribution of more than 150,000 hot meals, its chairman Tariq Bin Saleh Jamal said. He told Saudi Gazette that the organization would also distribute large quantities of juices and water for people to break their fast. He said through its fridge trucks, the organization would distribute more than 100,000 containers of the holy Zamzam water among 25 mosques in the holy city. The chairman said the charity will also distribute water in the areas surrounding the Grand Mosque after taraweeh (late evening) prayers. He said food leftovers collected from the hotels, estimated to be equivalent to at least 20,000 meals, will be distributed daily among poor people in Makkah. Jamal said the organization's Zakat money, which is about SR6.5 million, will be given to about 6,000 poor families during Ramadan at a rate of SR2,000 to each family. The chairman said more than 4,000 food baskets, containing various food elements, will be distributed among poor families registered with the society. “They will either take vouchers to receive their food supplies from various shops and supermarkets or take the food baskets,” he said. The chairman said the organization would work with the Interior Ministry to distribute food baskets among the families of security officers killed in action. He said under the slogan “We Have Not Forgotten You King Abdullah", the organization will distribute toys among poor children. The chairman said the organization would also distribute clothes to the needy on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr. “Last year we distributed more than 10,000 clothes among poor men and women in Makkah,” he added.
