JEDDAH — The youth are the support and pillars of the Ummah and its advancement, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman said here on Wednesday. The King was addressing the President of Youth Welfare and Chairman of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee Prince Abdullah Bin Musaed Bin Abdul Aziz, chairmen of sports clubs and senior sports and youth officials. “Saudi youth are diligent in serving their religion and their nation in all fields including sports,” the King said. “The State supports youth and sports. We will continue to provide the necessary support to achieve the required standards and developments. “The youth are ambassadors of their country and society. They have a huge responsibility to shoulder. They are role models for those who are younger than them. They should set a good example for them. “Sports must reflect the conduct of a Muslim. Competitions should be governed by our values and morals which reject fanaticism. They should encourage loyalty to the nation. “Your nation is envied for many of its bounties Allah has granted it. These include cohesion,” the King said. Prince Abdullah Bin Musaed said a comprehensive plan is being prepared for the youth for the best utilization of their time. He said the General Presidency for Youth Welfare is striving to improve the Kingdom's standing in Olympic Games by making the youth participate in international sports events. The General Presidency for Youth Welfare was established in 1974 as an agency responsible for sports, culture and social activities. It licenses and subsidizes sports and literary clubs and is responsible for the construction of sports facilities for the benefit of sports clubs and the public. It also prepares both an annual and a five-year plan for the encouragement and development of sports.
