Five events for men and five for women will be part of the Golden League's $1 million jackpot in 2009. The men will compete in the 100 meters, 400, 3,000-5,000, 110 hurdles and javelin, while the women will contest the 100, 400, 100 hurdles, high jump and pole vault, the International Association of Athletics Federations announced Thursday. Any athlete that wins those events at each of the six Golden League meetings will claim at least part of the $1 million jackpot. “As usual, we have tried to ensure an interesting mix of events,” IAAF President Lamine Diack said. “This is the surest way to add interest to what is already shaping up to be an exciting 2009 season.” The first of the six Golden League meets will be in Berlin on June 14. That will be followed by meetings in Oslo, Norway, on July 3; Rome on July 10; Paris on July 17; Zurich on Aug. 28; and Brussels on Sept. 4.
