ST LOUIS — The Los Angeles Dodgers couldn't beat Michael Wacha in the 2013 National League Championship Series with ace Clayton Kershaw pitching but they figured out a way to do with their No. 5 starter pitching Saturday. Carlos Frias tossed seven solid, efficient innings and Los Angeles finally broke through against Wacha in a four-run sixth inning, earning a 5-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Wacha (7-1), who took a no-hitter into the sixth against a team which hadn't scored a road run in a franchise-record 42 innings, lost it with a one-out double off the right field wall by third baseman Justin Turner.
Braves 8, Giants 0: Rookie Williams Perez shut out the hottest team in the majors, the San Francisco Giants, over seven innings, en route to his first major league win, pitching the Atlanta Braves to victory.
Second baseman Jace Peterson and third baseman Juan Uribe combined for six hits and six runs scored as the Braves got to Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum (5-3), who hadn't allowed a run at home since April 21, for four runs in 4 1/3 innings, ending his scoreless-innings streak at home at 23 and his winning streak at four.
Pirates 5, Padres 2: Right-handed starter Charlie Morton held San Diego to two runs on three hits over seven innings and drove in the decisive run with a sixth-inning ground ball to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a win over the Padres.
Morton (2-0) was making only his second start since returning from right hip surgery performed last September.
Marlins 9, Mets 5: Left fielder Christian Yelich's two-run, two-out single in the top of the seventh inning snapped a tie and lifted the Miami Marlins to a wild win over the New York Mets.
Right fielder Giancarlo Stanton hit two mammoth solo homers for the Marlins, who blew a 5-1 lead in the fourth but won their second straight to improve to 20-30, including 4-8 under new manager Dan Jennings.
Diamondbacks 7, Brewers 3: Paul Goldschmidt hit two home runs and Jeremy Hellickson went six innings as Arizona beat Milwaukee.
