RABAT - Pharrell Williams is still Happy! The "Happy" and "Get Lucky" singer and producer with the Midas touch is in Rabat for the Mawazine Festival. He was at the pre-gig press conference when a journalist asked a sticky question about the controversial "Blurred Line"s lawsuit, in which he and co-singer Robin Thicke were hit with a massive fine over copyright infringement of Marvin Gaye's song "Got to Give it Up." The verdict caused shockwaves in the music industry, Albawaba.com reported.
A journalist asked "We know that you had to pay $7.3 million dollars in the 'Blurred Lines' lawsuit, are you still happy now?" Next to him, a horrified Mawazine press organizer shook her head, saying "no, no" and gently touched his arm to skip the question, when Pharrell answered calmly "Of course I'm happy! Why shouldn't I be happy? I still have all of my copyright and my publishing, but the question is... are you happy in your life?" which lead to applause from around the room. "God is good...and we're lucky and blessed to be here.. when you're not here, that's when you'd be sad".
Pharrell's performance follows Jennifer Lopez, who opened the festival on Friday. Moroccan artists such as Moataz Abou Zouz, Aziz Al Maghribi, Mohamed Adly, Lebanese singers Elissa, Wael Kfoury, Melhem Zein, and numerous world music artists will also be performing with international headliners Sean Paul (Sunday) Avicii (Monday), Sting (Thursday), Usher (Friday) , and Maroon 5 (Saturday) in the nine day festival. - Agencies
