SANAA — Residents of the city of Taiz in Yemen have appealed to the UN Security Council to protect them from the genocide being committed by Houthi militias and fighters loyal to ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh. The appeal by the Taiz residents came in a press statement carried by Yemen News Agency on Saturday. Houthis and militias loyal to Saleh reportedly killed at least 15 civlilans and wounded more than 100 others in an artillery shell barrage on Saturday in the city of Taiz. The attack came on the penultimate day of a fragile humanitarian ceasefire announced by the Saudi-led coalition forces. A medical source reported that the victims were killed by the sporadic artillery shelling that hit a residential neighborhood in the city, according to Al Arabiya News channel. On the southern side of the city, in Saber Mountain, the resistance was able to repel a rebel militia attack aimed at taking back sites that have fallen under the control of resistance forces over the past few days. — Agencies
