With regard to the article "Nearly 2,000 boat people including Rohingya rescued in SE Asia" (May 12), the plight of the Rohingya Muslims is at least two decades old. The Myanmar government started a systematic ethnic cleansing campaign using its Buddhist population to remove Muslims from Rakhine province. Unfortunately, the world remains silent and effectively does nothing to save them. They only become international headline news once they are floating helplessly in the sea.
